Writing a Paper

by W. Sam Emara

We’ve all heard the phrases: “I work best when under pressure,” and “I do my best work at night… the night before it’s due.”  What are the truths behind these statements?

There’s no doubt that the adrenaline response to writing a paper the night before it's due has an impact on the way your brain works and your ability to draw connections.  This may enable some aspects of the writing process but not having enough time will impede other key elements of writing an essay that earns an A.  There is a way, however, to benefit from both the logical structure that comes with ample time and the focused unpacking of ideas that comes with an all-nighter.  This method is based on the strategic organization of a paper and the order in which it’s written.  By deliberately writing for a grade, addressing the key elements a teacher looks for, you can get a higher grade in less time.

The reality of reading and grading one of thirty five-page papers for our overworked and tired teachers is that they frequently end up subconsciously looking for key elements to validate a grade.  This means that the subtle style and delicate adornments that typically define the writing of the most renowned authors of the literary world are less important in the eyes of a busy English teacher than the base concepts of the essay.  With an interactive video conferencing connection Emara Academic Solutions coaches students through the development of a paper from thesis formulation to quoting a source so that no one has to aimlessly stare at a blank screen in limbo when they can get some quick guidance in the right direction.

Thankfully, I’ve always earned A’s on my papers, originally it was because I genuinely set out to compose refined pieces of writing which took a lot of time, but after learning to write more efficiently my essay writing process began, instead, with the intention of writing an A paper.  It was in that difference of writing with a clear purpose that I’ve been able to find untapped time.
